Worlds 2026 Format Explained
Worlds will once again test teams across several different formats.
Play-In Stage
Four teams enter the Play-In:
CBLOL #2
Karmine Corp
Cloud9
MVK Esports
They will compete in a double-elimination bracket, with every match played as a best-of-five.
The catch?
Only one team reaches the Swiss Stage.
Four teams enter. One survives.
Swiss Stage
The Swiss Stage features 16 teams competing across a maximum of five rounds.
The goal is simple:
3 wins = qualify for Knockouts
3 losses = eliminated
The opening round uses four seeding pots, with Pot 1 facing Pot 4 and Pot 2 facing Pot 3.
Teams from the same region cannot face each other in the first round.
From there, teams are matched against opponents with similar records until eight teams remain.
Knockout Stage
The final eight teams move into a traditional single-elimination bracket.
Every series is a best-of-five.
The Knockout Stage includes:
Quarterfinals — November 3–6
Semifinals — November 7–8
Grand Final — November 14
At this point, there are no second chances.
Win the series or go home.
The Biggest Storylines at Worlds 2026
Can T1 Keep the Dynasty Alive?
There is no bigger Worlds storyline than T1.
After winning Worlds in 2023, 2024 and 2025, Faker and T1 arrive with the opportunity to extend one of the most dominant runs League of Legends esports has ever seen.
Worlds also has a habit of bringing out a different version of T1.
Even when their domestic season is not perfect, they remain one of the most dangerous teams in international best-of-five series.
The question is simple:
Can anyone stop them when Worlds begins?
Is This Finally Chovy’s Year?
On the other side stands Gen.G.
Chovy has been one of the strongest individual players in League for years, but the Worlds trophy continues to escape him.
Gen.G once again enters the tournament as one of the teams capable of winning everything.
Talent has never really been the question.
Now they need to prove it on League’s biggest stage.
LCK vs. LPL Continues
Korea and China remain the regions everyone will be watching.
Gen.G, T1, Hanwha Life and Dplus KIA represent the LCK, while Anyone’s Legend, Bilibili Gaming, Top Esports and Invictus Gaming carry the LPL.
With multiple championship-level rosters on both sides, another LCK vs. LPL collision deep in the bracket feels very possible.
Worlds 2026 Meta: What to Expect From Patch 26.20
Worlds 2026 will be played on Patch 26.20.
Rather than completely rebuilding the meta before the tournament, Riot focused on tuning several champions that were already important in professional play while giving some less common picks a chance to return.
That could create one of the more open Worlds metas we have seen recently.

Champions Nerfed Before Worlds
Several high-priority competitive champions were hit before the tournament, including:
Ambessa
Ashe
Cassiopeia
K’Sante
Yunara
These changes could have a major impact on pick/ban priorities.
Cassiopeia in particular had become an extremely valuable competitive pick before Worlds, while Ambessa and K’Sante have consistently been strong options for professional teams.
They probably will not disappear completely.
But they may no longer be automatic draft priorities.
Champions Buffed for Worlds
Riot also opened the door for several new picks.
Champions receiving help around the Worlds patch include:
Kennen
Kindred
Lillia
Lucian
Neeko
Smolder
Vayne
Diana
These buffs matter even more in professional play.
A champion does not need to become overpowered to change a draft.
Sometimes becoming just viable enough is all it takes.
Picks to Watch at Worlds 2026
Kennen
Kennen remains one of the classic teamfight top laners.
With additional help heading into Worlds, his ability to completely change a fight with a single ultimate could put him back into professional drafts.
Kindred
Kindred is always interesting when viable in pro play.
The champion brings scaling, aggressive jungle matchups and one of the most unique ultimates in League.
Expect certain junglers to at least keep Kindred available as a pocket pick.
Lillia
Lillia offers speed, scaling and huge teamfight potential.
If the jungle meta opens up, she could become one of the more dangerous AP options of the tournament.
Cassiopeia
Even after receiving a nerf, Cassiopeia should remain one of the champions to watch.
Her presence before Worlds was simply too strong to ignore.
The real question is whether Patch 26.20 pushes her out of the top tier or simply turns her from a must-ban into a strong situational pick.
Fearless Draft Makes Champion Pools Even More Important
Worlds is not only about playing the strongest champions.
Teams also need depth.
With Fearless Draft, champions already selected during a series become unavailable again for that team, forcing players deeper into their champion pools.
That makes best-of-five series especially interesting.
The longer a matchup goes, the more creativity matters.
Pocket picks, unusual compositions and flexible players could completely change a series.
At Worlds, being good at five champions is useful.
Being dangerous on fifteen is even better.
Teams to Watch at Worlds 2026
T1
Until someone eliminates them, T1 remains impossible to ignore.
Faker’s experience, T1’s history at Worlds and their ability to perform under pressure make them one of the biggest threats in the tournament.
Gen.G
Gen.G has the talent to win Worlds.
For Chovy and the rest of the roster, the challenge is turning that potential into the one trophy that matters most.
Anyone’s Legend
Anyone’s Legend enters Worlds as one of China’s highest-seeded teams and could be one of the most interesting LPL representatives to follow.
Do not treat them as an outsider.
Bilibili Gaming
BLG once again brings a roster capable of challenging almost anyone.
When their aggressive style works, few teams can match their pace.
G2 Esports
G2 remains one of the West’s biggest hopes internationally.
They have never been afraid of playing their own style against Korean or Chinese teams, which makes them one of the most entertaining teams to watch at Worlds.
Where to Watch LoL Worlds 2026
Worlds 2026 will be broadcast through the official LoL Esports channels and Riot’s usual streaming platforms.
Matches begin on October 15, with the Grand Final taking place on November 14 in Brooklyn.
Once the Play-In ends, the competition only gets harder.
Who Will Win Worlds 2026?
T1 has the history.
Gen.G has the talent.
The LPL has multiple teams capable of making a deep run.
And every year, Worlds finds a way to produce something nobody predicted.
Patch 26.20 could also shake up the draft enough to reward teams with deeper champion pools and stronger adaptation throughout a series.
