What are Artifacts in Genshin Impact?
Artifacts are equipment that raise a character’s stats in Genshin Impact. Each character can equip five pieces, and each piece has a main stat, up to four substats and belongs to a set. Equipping two or four pieces of the same set unlocks bonuses, so Artifacts are one of the biggest parts of building a character.

Main stats, substats and levels
- Rarity: Artifacts go from 1 to 5 stars; 5-star pieces can be levelled up to +20.
- Main stat: increases at a fixed rate every level.
- Substats: a 5-star piece has up to four. Every four levels, a new substat appears or an existing one is enhanced at random.
- Levelling: uses Artifact EXP, from other artifacts or enhancement items, plus Mora.
Set bonuses
Most sets give a bonus for two pieces and a stronger one for four pieces. Many four-piece bonuses boost specific Elemental Reactions or attack types, so the best set depends on how the character plays.
How to get Artifacts
- Artifact domains, which cost Original Resin and drop specific sets.
- Bosses, elite enemies and chests around the world.
- Rewards such as chamber bounties in the Spiral Abyss.
- Newer systems that let you define a piece’s set, slot and main stat, or reshape the substat rolls of a fully levelled piece.
Example
A character who deals damage with Vaporize wants a Sands with Elemental Mastery or ATK%, a Goblet with Pyro DMG Bonus and a Circlet with CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG, plus substats like CRIT and Elemental Mastery, in a four-piece set that boosts their reaction.
Farming tips
Because substats are random, Artifact farming is a long-term goal. Lock good pieces, use weaker ones as EXP, and focus your Resin on the set your main characters need.
