What Was Hyper Roll in TFT?
A faster Teamfight Tactics game mode with its own ladder, retired by Riot in 2025. The name is still used for very aggressive rolling.
What is Hyper Roll in TFT?
Hyper Roll was a faster Teamfight Tactics game mode: shorter games, quicker fights and a more aggressive economy, with its own ranked ladder separate from normal ranked. Riot announced in May 2025 that it would turn the mode off at the end of the Cyber City set, and it left the game when Set 15 launched in July 2025.
How Hyper Roll worked
- Shorter games: fewer rounds and faster damage, so a match took a fraction of a standard game.
- Faster economy: players had less time to save, so rolling early was the norm. See reroll.
- Its own ranking: instead of the standard tiers, Hyper Roll used a separate ladder of colour tiers.
Why it was removed
When announcing the change in May 2025, TFT’s game director said that only a small share of total playtime went to Hyper Roll and that, despite being fast, the mode demanded deep game knowledge and was stressful for new players. It was turned off with the launch of Set 15 in July 2025.
“Hyper rolling” as a playstyle
Some players still say “hyper roll” for spending gold very aggressively on rerolls instead of saving it. That is a strategy, not a mode, and it is the opposite of a slow roll, which keeps an interest floor. In standard TFT, this kind of rolling has to be weighed against your economy.
Example
A player says they “hyper rolled” at the start of Stage 3: they spent nearly all their gold on rerolls to 3-star a cheap unit, accepting a weaker economy for a strong board early.
Will it come back?
