How Does the Fortnite Battle Pass Work?

What is the Battle Pass in Fortnite?
The Battle Pass is Fortnite’s seasonal reward track. You earn XP by playing, and every level unlocks rewards such as skins, emotes and V-Bucks. Some rewards are free, while the full premium track is bought with V-Bucks or included in Fortnite Crew. Everything it gives is cosmetic, so it never affects how strong you are in a match.
How it works
- Seasons: each pass lasts one season. When the season ends, a new pass with new rewards starts.
- XP from anywhere: XP counts from Battle Royale and from other Fortnite experiences, including many creator-made islands.
- Quests: daily, weekly and story quests give the biggest and most consistent XP boosts.
- Choose your path: rewards are organised in pages, and you pick which reward to unlock next on the current page.
Free rewards vs. premium
Every player can earn the free rewards. Buying the pass unlocks the premium rewards, including the season’s main skins. The premium pass also returns some V-Bucks as you level up; the exact amount has changed between seasons, so check the current pass in the game.
