How does chemistry work in EA FC?
Chemistry (or chem) is the Ultimate Team system that rewards squads built with players who share a club, league or nation. Each player can earn 0 to 3 chemistry, for a team maximum of 33. Players only earn chemistry in a position they can play, and only players with chemistry get the attribute boosts from their Chemistry Style.
How players earn chemistry
In the system introduced in FC 24 and kept in later editions, chemistry no longer depends on who is next to whom on the pitch. It comes from how many players in the starting eleven share each club, league and nation. The more players you have from the same group, the more points everyone in that group gets.

A player’s chemistry is the sum of the points they earn from club, league and nation, capped at 3. EA occasionally adjusts the details between editions, so check the squad screen in your current game.
Special cards that help chemistry
- Icons always have full chemistry in position and count double for their nation.
- Heroes always have full chemistry in position and count double for their league.
- The manager adds to the counts of their own league and nation.
- Position matters: a player out of position earns no chemistry, even with perfect links.
Why chemistry matters
Chemistry Styles, such as Hunter or Shadow, raise specific attributes, but the boost depends on the player’s chemistry: no chem, no boost. That is why many players build hybrid squads that reach 33 while still fitting the best cards. Chemistry is also a common requirement in SBCs, together with rating.
Example
You start eight Premier League players, five of them English. Every Premier League player reaches 3 league chemistry, and the English ones also get nation points. Your Brazilian winger from LaLiga starts with 0, so you add a Brazilian Icon nearby in the lineup to bring him up.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do players with 0 chemistry play worse?
Their base attributes stay the same, but they do not get any Chemistry Style boost, which is a real disadvantage against squads at full chemistry.
Does chemistry affect the bench?
No. Only the starting eleven counts for team chemistry. Players coming off the bench keep the chemistry of the position they enter.
