What Is Mythic+ in World of Warcraft?

World of Warcraft's timed dungeon mode for five players, where a keystone sets the difficulty and the rewards.

What is Mythic+ in World of Warcraft?

Mythic+ (or M+) is World of Warcraft's timed dungeon mode for groups of five. A Mythic Keystone sets the dungeon and its level: the higher the level, the stronger the enemies. Beat the timer and the keystone goes up; run out of time and it usually goes down.

How Mythic+ works

To start a run, one player places their keystone in the pedestal at the dungeon entrance. Each level up raises enemy health and damage, and from certain levels affixes add extra mechanics that change every week.

A group is one tank, one healer and three damage dealers, and the roster is locked once the timer starts. Every death takes time off the clock, so a clean run is usually faster than a reckless one.

In time or over time

  • In time: the keystone goes up by one to three levels, depending on how much time was left, and switches to another dungeon.
  • Over time: the dungeon still counts as completed, but the keystone drops one level and switches to another dungeon.

Later in a season, players who time every dungeon at a high enough level can earn a resilient keystone, which stops their key from dropping below that level.

Example

Your group runs a +8 and finishes with plenty of time to spare: the keystone jumps to a +10 in a new dungeon. If the same group had finished over time, the key would have become a +7 instead.

Mythic+ Rating

Your best result in each dungeon of the season adds up to your Mythic+ Rating, shown on your character. Higher keys and faster clears give more rating, a failed key never lowers it, and many groups check it before inviting someone.

Rewards

  • End-of-dungeon loot from the chest after each completed run.
  • Great Vault options every week, based on the highest keys you completed.
  • Seasonal achievements with titles and mounts for reaching rating milestones.

Item level from the chest and the Great Vault rises with key level, up to a cap set for each season.

A new dungeon pool every season

Each season uses its own set of dungeons, mixing current ones with returning dungeons from earlier expansions, so routes and strategies change from season to season.

Pushing keys takes time and a coordinated group. If you have a specific goal, see our Mythic+ Dungeons or the Mythic+ Rating Boost.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the number after the + mean?

It is the keystone level. A +10 is a harder version of the same dungeon than a +5 and gives better rewards.

Does everyone in the group need a keystone?

No. Only one player needs a keystone, and the whole group runs the dungeon at that keystone's level.

Do I lose Mythic+ Rating if we fail a key?

No. Rating only tracks your best result in each dungeon, so a failed run cannot lower it. What drops is the keystone level.
