What Is a Team Composition (Comp) in TFT?
The group of champions, traits and items you build toward in Teamfight Tactics, and the board you aim to have by the late game.
What is a comp in TFT?
A team composition, or comp, is the board you build toward in Teamfight Tactics: which champions you play, which traits they activate together, who carries the items and where everyone stands. A comp is the goal; the way you get there, such as a reroll or a fast level-up, is the strategy.
What makes a comp
- Traits: champions that share traits unlock bonuses when enough of them are on the board.
- Carries: one or two main damage dealers that hold the best items.
- Frontline: durable units that protect the carries.
- Items and positioning: the right items on the right units, placed to beat the boards you face.
Comp vs. strategy
| Comp | Strategy | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | The final board you want | How you spend gold to reach it |
| Examples | A board built around one trait and one carry | Reroll, fast level, slow roll |
| Changes with | The set and the patch | Your gold, health and lobby |
Forcing vs. playing flexible
Some players pick a comp before the game starts and force it. Others play flexible, choosing a comp based on the champions, items and Augments they get early. Forcing is simpler to learn but fails when several players go for the same units; flexible play takes more knowledge but adapts to each lobby.
Example
You get early items that suit a magic damage carry and an Augment that boosts a caster trait. Instead of the comp you planned, you pivot toward a board built around that trait, adding frontline units that share it.
