How Do Team-Up Abilities Work in Marvel Rivals?
Extra abilities linked to a partner hero in Marvel Rivals: each hero picks one, with a base effect and a stronger effect when the partner is on the team.
What are Team-Up Abilities in Marvel Rivals?
Team-Up Abilities are extra abilities tied to a pair of heroes in Marvel Rivals. Since Season 9 (July 2026), every hero has two Team-Up loadouts and equips one. Each Team-Up has a base effect that always works and an enhanced effect that turns on when the named partner hero is on your team.
How the current system works
- Two options per hero: each hero has two independent Team-Up loadouts, usually linked to different partners.
- Pick one: you choose your loadout when selecting your hero, and you can change it between rounds or when you are back in the spawn room.
- Base effect: always active once equipped, even if the partner hero is not on your team.
- Enhanced effect: a stronger version, or sometimes a different effect, that turns on when the partner is on your team.
Examples
| Hero | Partner | What the Team-Up does |
|---|---|---|
| Hulk | Captain America | Hulk gets a jumping ground slam. With Captain America on the team, it deals more damage and adds a debuff. |
| Storm | Jeff the Land Shark | Jaws of Fate gives Storm a self-healing area ability. With Jeff on the team, he joins her ultimate for extra damage. |
| Black Panther | Magik or Storm | He can choose between two Team-Ups, one for each partner. |
How it changed in Season 9
Before Season 9, a Team-Up only worked when specific heroes were on the same team, and the bonus was mostly for one of them. The rework made every hero choose between two Team-Ups and gave each one a base effect, so you get value even when your team doesn’t have the partner.
Example
You lock in Hulk and equip his Captain America Team-Up. Nobody picks Captain America, but you still have the ground slam. Later a teammate swaps to Captain America, and your slam becomes stronger without you changing anything.
Using Team-Ups well
Pick the loadout that fits your team, and talk to teammates about partners that make your Vanguard, Duelist or Strategist picks stronger. If you want help building team compositions, our Marvel Rivals coaches can review your games.
