The latest Imaginarium Theater season in Genshin Impact began on August 1, 2026, introducing a new lineup built around Hydro, Electro and Cryo characters.
The current cycle features Yelan, Aino, Flins, Ororon, Skirk and Layla as Opening Characters. Arlecchino, Chevreuse, Kaedehara Kazuha and Tighnari are available as Special Guests, allowing players to include selected characters outside the usual elemental restrictions.

Characters capable of applying elements while off-field are particularly valuable because several stages feature multiple enemies, airborne targets or mechanics that reward consistent elemental application.
Useful options may include Xingqiu, Furina, Fischl, Yae Miko, Raiden Shogun, Charlotte and Escoffier, depending on which characters are available on the player’s account.
The six Opening Characters for the August 2026 season are:

Players who do not own these units can use their trial versions during the performance.
Opening Characters also receive the Fantastical Blessing during the season. This bonus increases their Maximum HP, Attack and Defense by 20%, making the trial versions more reliable for accounts with smaller rosters.
The opening lineup also provides several natural combinations. Aino can support Electro-focused teams with Hydro application, while Flins and Ororon can help trigger the reactions required by certain enemy mechanics.
Skirk can serve as a primary damage dealer in Cryo and Hydro compositions, while Layla provides defensive support through her shield.
Special Guests can participate in Imaginarium Theater even when they do not belong to one of the season’s featured elements.

Arlecchino and Chevreuse can be used together in an Overloaded team supported by Electro characters.
Kazuha is one of the most versatile guests because he can group enemies, reduce their elemental resistance through the Viridescent Venerer artifact set and increase elemental damage.
Tighnari offers an alternative source of Dendro damage. However, he requires more careful planning because other Dendro characters cannot normally be added to this season’s roster.
Kazuha is likely the most universally useful option, especially during stages with several enemies. Arlecchino should ideally be reserved for a boss encounter where high damage within a limited time is more important than crowd control.
The number of eligible characters depends on the selected difficulty.
The highest difficulty requires a large roster of characters who meet the elemental and level restrictions. Players attempting the most demanding version should prepare approximately 28 eligible characters, with additional roster slots offering greater flexibility and possible bonuses.
Characters must also meet the required level threshold before they can participate.
Players who do not have enough fully developed units should prioritize characters who remain useful with modest equipment. Healers, shielders, elemental applicators and off-field supports often require less investment than dedicated on-field damage dealers.
The Supporting Cast feature is also extremely important. Borrowing one well-built character from a friend can make a significant difference during one of the season’s hardest battles.
The season includes major encounters in Acts 3, 6, 8 and 10, along with additional Arcane Challenges on the highest difficulty.
Each boss rewards a different type of team, so players should avoid using all of their strongest characters during the early stages.
The first major boss is Knuckle Duckle.
During the battle, the enemy creates a defensive effect and summons floating devices around the arena. These devices must be destroyed before players can deal effective damage to the boss.
Electro-Charged and other reactions involving Hydro and Electro are especially useful against this mechanic.
An accessible team could include:
Flins, Aino, Ororon and one flexible support
Aino provides Hydro application, while Flins and Ororon help trigger the reactions needed to remove the devices.
Because this encounter appears relatively early in the performance, avoid using every top-tier character in the same team. Trial characters and secondary supports should be enough for most players.
The first Arcane Challenge features several Shadowy Husks.
The main objective is to defeat every enemy before the timer expires. However, certain Shadowy Husks can gain additional effects after attacking characters protected by shields.
For this reason, Layla may not be the ideal choice unless the team can defeat the enemies very quickly.
A healer is generally safer than a shield character during this challenge.
Kazuha is one of the best available options because he can pull enemies together and allow the team to hit several targets at once. Yelan, Fischl, Furina and Yae Miko are also useful because they can continue dealing damage while the active character moves around the arena.
The Act 6 enemy equips different pieces of armor throughout the battle. The more armor she obtains, the more dangerous the encounter becomes.
Freeze and Overloaded are two effective ways to control the fight.
Freeze can prevent the enemy from moving and may interfere with the armor mechanic. Overloaded can interrupt some of her actions and create openings for additional damage.

Arlecchino, Chevreuse and two Electro characters
The Skirk composition is generally safer because it offers crowd control and defensive support.
The Arlecchino team can complete the encounter more quickly, but it requires stronger investment and more careful play.
The second Arcane Challenge features groups of Eremites positioned across different parts of the arena.
The biggest mistake is chasing every enemy individually.
After defeating the melee-focused Eremite, move the battle toward the ranged enemy. This positioning makes it easier to fight the next wave without wasting time crossing the arena.
Characters with area-of-effect damage are especially valuable.
Kazuha is once again an excellent option, while Electro-Charged teams can deal continuous damage to several enemies at the same time.
This is also a good stage for using one of the available charges from a borrowed Supporting Cast character.
The boss in Act 8 summons four drones that must be destroyed before they can generate a Hydro-based protective effect.
Cryo and Electro reactions can be effective against these devices. Once all drones are destroyed, the boss becomes temporarily vulnerable.
Characters who can hit airborne targets or attack automatically while off-field are extremely useful.

One possible team is:
Flins, Aino, Charlotte and Ororon
Avoid entering this battle with only short-range melee characters. Even a team with high theoretical damage can lose too much time trying to reach or hit the drones.
The Perpetual Mechanical Array is the final boss of the season.
This enemy does not require one specific elemental reaction, so players should save their strongest single-target team for this encounter.
After taking enough damage, the boss separates and summons four Ruin Sentinels.
Only one Sentinel must be defeated. The correct target is marked by a visible indicator. Destroying it causes the Perpetual Mechanical Array to become paralyzed and take increased damage for a limited period.
Players should reserve their strongest main damage dealer and at least two important supports for this battle.
Skirk, Flins, Arlecchino or another heavily invested DPS can fill the main damage role.
A shield is not essential for players who are comfortable avoiding the boss’s attacks. Replacing a defensive character with another support or damage amplifier may make it easier to finish within the time limit.
Because of the featured elements and enemy mechanics, characters capable of dealing damage or applying elements while off-field are among the strongest options this season.
Yelan and Xingqiu provide strong single-target damage and consistent Hydro application. Both work particularly well with characters who use Normal Attacks.
Furina can increase the entire team’s damage, while Kokomi combines reliable healing with continuous Hydro application.
Aino can also be valuable in teams built around the current season’s featured reactions.
Fischl, Ororon and Yae Miko can continue attacking while another character remains active.
Flins can serve as one of the season’s primary damage dealers, while Raiden Shogun provides damage, Electro application and Energy restoration.
Electro characters are especially useful during stages involving devices, airborne targets or multiple enemies.
Skirk is one of the strongest main damage options available during this season.
Layla offers a reliable shield, although she should be avoided against enemies that gain bonuses from attacking shielded characters.
Charlotte combines healing with Cryo application, while Escoffier can support teams centered on Hydro and Cryo units.
Players should not place every top-tier character on the same team. In Imaginarium Theater, distributing strong units across several acts is usually more important than creating one perfect composition.
