What Is Low Priority in Dota 2 and How Do You Get Out?

Dota 2’s temporary matchmaking penalty for bad behavior, which limits you to Single Draft until you win a set number of games.

What is Low Priority in Dota 2?

Low Priority is a temporary matchmaking penalty Valve gives for behavior that harms other players, such as abandoning games. While you are in it you can only queue Single Draft, and the only way out is to win the number of games shown in the client.

Why accounts get Low Priority

  • Abandoning matches, whether by leaving or by repeatedly failing to reconnect.
  • Behavior reported by many players across your recent games.

The in-game Conduct Summary shows how you have behaved over your recent matches and is the best place to see what led to the penalty.

What changes while you are in Low Priority

  • You can only play Single Draft, where each player picks from a small random set of heroes.
  • Other Low Priority players fill your matches, and queues are usually longer.
  • Only wins count toward leaving; losses do not reduce the number of games left.

Repeat penalties

Getting Low Priority again soon after raises the number of wins you need, and continued bad behavior can lead to longer matchmaking restrictions. Abandoning a Low Priority game makes things worse rather than better.

Example

A player abandons a ranked game after a disconnect and receives Low Priority with two games to win. They lose their first Single Draft match, so they still need two wins; after winning two games, normal matchmaking opens up again.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you get out of Low Priority in Dota 2?

Win the number of Single Draft games shown in the client. Losses do not count, and the penalty does not expire on its own.

Can one disconnect send me to Low Priority?

A single connection problem usually is not enough, but repeated abandons, even accidental ones, can lead to it.
